Entity-First Indexing

Entity-First Indexing references the idea that the name Mobile-First Indexing may not fully convey the fundamental changes that happened when Google launched Mobile-First Indexing. Most of the communication was about the change of the primary crawler, but crawling and indexing are different. The inclusion of the word ‘indexing’ in the name may have hinted at a larger re-structure of the index, to focus on more efficient, entity-focused organization of information, that helps Google better understand relationships between topics, and how that might impact intent, which will help them provide better results, especially in a mobile-first scenario.
